For as little as a G, you can scoff at the ever-inflating costs of gasoline forever, and laugh at one of the System's greatest lies, that you NEED gasoline - the liquid gold that bankrolls the world's problems.
Grease Works!, a Corvallis-based company, has specialized in converting diesel cars into vegetable oil-munching machines for $1,000 to $3,000. That's right, your road trip to Vegas could be FREE this summer (if you graciously take cooking oil off more-than-willing restaurants' hands), or at the low price of $1.50/gallon through independent wholesalers, while the rest of America is plunging into Depression-like conditions with gas reaching horrific costs that won't soon (if ever) deflate.
I'm seriously thinking about getting one of those conversions... now if I could just get a diesel car. I don't want to be a contributor to the argument that oil led to the recent wars in which the U.S. has been involved. I want to be apart from that argument, and apart from the apocalyptic denial of mainstream America that "everything's going to be just fine." With rapidly depleting fossil fuels, it won't be, without something more sustainable (see above links).
The ever-accelerating period of history in which we live is largely driven by oil. Economies rise and fall by it; politicians pledge their allegiance to it; governments wield it as a major trump card.
President Bush and numerous other government officials have been quoted saying they will work to wean the United States off foreign energy sources. Clinton said it too, but as we all know, not much has happened, except to produce a car that uses a little less gas. Big whoop. It's still gas. This veggie-oil technology is out there, and nary a word is to be heard! All we hear about are the "hydrogen fuel cell" cars and that, although they will take a long time to be developed, they are the answer to our problems. Nobody's serious about ending the dependence, because too many fatcats in power and their friends benefit way too much from the status quo.
And for the hawkish right wingers, the elimination of oil as a not-so-secret pretext for war would likely stop certain imperial aspirations... which is unacceptable for "peace" and "freedom" worldwide.
Man, I'm starting to sound like a Green. Well, I definitely don't agree with many of their left-leaning policies, however, I fully believe (and MANY Christians miss this, why I don't know) that we are to be good stewards of God's earth... not to the point that some Greens do by practically worshipping it (and becoming eco-terrorists), but by honoring the Lord's creation and caring for it however we can. Getting out of the oil business is good not only for the Earth ecologically, but socially, militarily, and economically!
While this doesn't appear to be a Matrix-related issue, it certainly is, because "money is the root of all kids of evil" (1 Tim. 6:10), and the System profits off its lies that oil (like television) is just another inherent part of life in this contemporary age. Once you realize that 90 percent of what you hear from the world System is a lie, you will finally open your mind and begin to see the true colors of justice and truth, and what it really means to live as Christ to the world and those living in it. ::MH::

The main reason that the US isn't more gung-ho to replace gasoline as the main fuel source for autos is that the owners of the major oil companies are now ARABS... and they are playing political cards in the Middle East to maintain their market positions in the US.
We have already sold out.
I love Marcus and his blog. He is way cool. He was born in GA so he's even human... ;)
