Now playing: Counterfeit Christianity

It seems the bigwigs in Hollywood just don't get it.

After Mel Gibson's amazing, anointed film "The Passion of the Christ" reached blockbuster status, many of us Christians, sick of the sex, violence, drugs and language that are epidemic in films as of late, were excited at the fact that Hollywood might finally realize that there is a market for good, clean (not that "The Passion" was clean... it was bloody, rightfully so, but clean in the sense that there was none of the vices listed above) faith-inspired movies.

We hoped the studios would take notice. Well, they did... but like Howard Dean's laughable attempts to show his "faith-based side," we learned that Hollywood's version of Christianity is a far cry from the Truth that we embraced at "The Passion."

After Mel hit it big from his life-changing chronicle, film studio execs rubbed their hands together and said, "Hey, we've got a new market. Put something together, quick!"

And from this, we get films like "Constantine" (no offense, A.K.), and most recently and ridiculously, NBC's "Revelations." Both of these films, while claiming to insert "Christian principles" and the Holy Scriptures, completely miss the mark when it comes to key issues, such as heaven and hill, faith and works, and even simple things like Biblical CONTEXT.

True believers who have even read a smidgen of the book of Revelation easily see through NBC's irreverent and irresponsible use and twisting of scripture to make a good flick. In "Constantine," according to this review by Focus on the Family's Plugged In entertainment magazine, the "Good News" of the Gospel is that you get into Heaven by doing one truly selfless act. How dangerous that is at a spiritual level! Imagine how many people, if they believed that, could wind up in Hell because they considered something they did "truly selfless" and that they were good to go?

In "Revelations," Bill Pullman and Natasha McElhone must, according to Plugged In, "find and protect Jesus [say what!?] from the stalking Antichrist so that His kingdom may be fulfilled." Scripture is often misquoted and in some cases, rewritten, and it's clear these people don't realize that Christ's kingdom has ALREADY been fulfilled by His death and resurrection. Of course, those aspects of Christianity are never mentioned, and everything is just a mishmash of Catholic mysticism and made up garbage.

NBC's going to be scratching their heads going, "What? I thought those Left-your-Bee-hind books did so darn well! We talked about Antie-Christ, too!" Of course, most of their hearts lack that personal, saving relationship of the Gospel (or even an honest look at the Bible as lit), and their works are going to show themselves for what they are: counterfeit, ingenuine, and more spirtually murky and destructive than helpful.

It's no secret that The System of The Matrix in which we live likes its more obvious entertainment attacks -- the sex, violence and language -- but what it likes more are attacks that look like spirituality. One of Satan's many aliases is Lucifer, literally, the "light bearer." Christ is the light of the world, but Satan appears to be light (2 Cor. 11:14), when in reality he is darkness. He claims "enlightenment," but is really the cosmos' biggest fool. So it is with these phony "Christian" shows.

This isn't just entertainment here, people. This is a matter of life and death... which again, is why I attest that modern society's mainstream media oversaturation can and will be our undoing. Break free! If you're really interested in the End Times, read the Bible and then read the news! We're there, baby.

Instead of rejoicing at Hollywood's acceptance of Christians as a valid demographic with specific needs, we will now ADD to our prayers (in addition to having studios provide REAL Christian media) that the crap that's out there now won't be watched, and won't lead people away from the Truth. ::MH::

Nice blog. Love the title/precept. And a very thoughtful and richly linked post here. Good job. I agree that there's *much* to object to in NBC's 'Revelations', but IMHO God is more than wise enough to use such flawed and wrongly-motivated projects to His purposes. E.g., the scripture shots after each round of ads may be the first time that some have ever seen them. If those teasers get even one non-believer to crack open his or her Bible, that's a big win.

I must say when I agree. I read in the LA Daily Paper about hollywood trying to hit the market for christian viewers.

Because of the "Passion of the Christ, Left behide and The Da Vinci Code" (If you didn't know they are making Da Vinci Code Movie with Tom Hanks) Hollywood said "HEY we can make money if we make christian films and tv shows. As they quickly made "revelations" There is more shows on the way. Like "The Book of Daniel" But the way Hollywood is going to make the shows I think... It's not going to be in a true christian way. Shows like "7th heaven, Touched by an Angel and Joan of Arcadia" They are good shows but the network like to put them as time killers. If they made shows like 7th heaven, but not in a bubble gum show way it would be better. I don't think Hollywood will get it right. Because they are thinking about ratings and money and not about quality christian family shows.

Well, just a side note about JMacey's post... "The DaVinci Code" absolutely CANNOT be lumped in with "Left Behind" and "The Passion."

It's absolutely one of the worst assaults on Christianity that we've seen in modern times, casting doubt on Christ as Savior and Lord using muddy half-truths.

"DaVinci" easily falls in line with "Constantine", "Revelations" and the infamous Scorsese film, "The Last Temptation of Christ." It is one of those films that appears as light due to having some "Christian" content, but is really darkness. Go
to http://www.debunkingdavinci.com/ and find out for yourself.

It's a shame, but so many people (Christians, too!) have fallen into the trap our Enemy has set with the DaVinci code. Just think: If Christ was just a man, and all of his divinity was simply a great lie, why did men face extreme torture, death, and persecution to propagate that lie (in the first century and now)? Read the facts, it makes no sense, but Satan has a way of fooling people into thinking the most absurd things are true.

"DaVinci" is clearly and unabashedly an assault on Christianity and should be taken as such. Ever heard of "wolves among sheep"? ::MH::
